The ILC II at the Wood School serves students in grades 4, 5, and 6 with a wide variety of educational needs, primarily in the areas of learning, attention, language, and socialization. Staffing consists of a Special Educator along with paraprofessionals to address the individual needs of the students. The program is highly structured and offers a multi-sensory, phonetic approach to reading and written language for those who require such. Curriculum is closely aligned with the Massachusetts frameworks and is modified to meet the needs of the students.
The small group setting provides students with increased opportunities to learn organizational skills for increased independence. Many students in this program receive additional support form one or more specialists. Additionally, opportunities to be included in the general education program are an integral part of this program. Students are included in homeroom and special subject areas and in other curriculum areas, where appropriate.
