Hello and welcome to second grade! I hope you are as excited as I am to learn, grow, and have plenty of fun this year! My name is Allison Dunn and this is my sixth year teaching 2nd grade at the Jackson School. I graduated from UConn with my Masters in Education in 2014. My love of teaching began when I myself was in second grade, playing school with my sisters in our basement. I consider myself lucky to be able to do a job that I love each day. I am proud to be a member of such a cooperative and positive school community here at the Jackson! When I am not teaching, I love to paint, take photos, spend time at the beach, relax with my husband and my family, and play with my energetic black lab, Pearl.
I am beyond excited to begin this year. It is my goal that each day my students step into the classroom with a smile. Together, we work as a community to build a safe, caring, and supportive place where we can take risks and get a little messy sometimes!
As the year progresses, I hope that this website will be a helpful tool for you to gather information and stay updated on the work we are doing in second grade. Families will also be able to take a peek inside our classroom after joining our private "Class Dojo" community page/app. Class Dojo will be the primary tool I will use to update with photos, videos, announcements, and other insight into current curriculum units and classroom activities. All families will receive a personal invitation to join the page and this will serve as our Classroom Newsletter updates.
Throughout the year, if you have questions or concerns about your child's academic or social/emotional needs, please know I am available to meet before or after school.
Please e-mail, call, or write a note if you have any questions, concerns, or celebrations to share. I look forward to a positive year with you and your child!
