It is wonderful to be back to school!  I received a warm welcome from the students upon my return from maternity leave.  Those smiles made leaving my Colin so much easier!  Thank you to Christine Yanni for making the transition so smooth for the students.  They certainly were in good hands.
March is reading month, and we have started our fairy tales unit.  We will be focusing on fairy tales and their many variations this month, including Goldilocks and the Three Bears, The Three Little Pigs, and more!  In writing, we have continued learning our letters of the week, following the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum.  Students have been practicing using lines and curves to build letters P,B, and R.  In math, we continue to expand our understanding of patterns with increasing complexity.  We have introduced 3 dimensional shapes, including spheres and cubes.  We continue to work on number identification (This month we are learning about number 7), and well as building on rote counting and counting with 1:1 correspondence.
    Important upcoming dates:
March 20th: no school due to screenings
March 29th:  no school due to parent-teacher conferences (conference times will be coming home.  Please return confirmation slips as soon as possible).
March 30th:  no school due to Good Friday
Our March 14th preschool screening date will need to be rescheduled due to the snow day.  We will update you with the new date as soon as possible.
Scholastic book orders can be placed online at clubs.scholastic.com!  This is a great opportunity for you to order books for your children or for gifts at reasonable prices.  Our classroom will earn free books from these orders as well! All orders must be placed online using the classroom code JBVNY.  I apologize but I cannot accept paper forms with checks for book orders.
As always, if you ever have any questions or concerns, please email me at ebarboza@plainville.k12.ma.us
