Welcome to Mrs Johnson's music class!
Greetings! My name is Mrs. Johnson, and I am the new music and chorus teacher at the Wood School. I imagine there will be parents and kids reading this, so I have written a note to both:
To the Students:
I am very excited to meet all of you and explore music together with you! I come to you from the Natick Public Schools, where I was a substitute teacher for music and general classrooms. I began studying piano in the second grade, and in the fourth grade I added the clarinet. In high school, I was in a production of "Fiddler on the Roof" and learned that I loved to sing! I went on to study singing at Tufts University, and later at Boston University. I have directed adult and children's choirs for many years, and I teach private voice and piano lessons out of my home in Natick. My husband and I have four kids who range in age from 14 to 19 years old. I can't wait to get started making music with you, both in the classroom and in chorus!
To the Parents:
I am delighted to have the opportunity to work with your children! We will incorporate Kodaly solfege, Orff instruments and movement games/dance in the classroom as we practice matching pitch, keeping a steady beat and internalizing rhythmic patterns. I am also excited to be directing the Wood School Chorus! I have chosen some great music, and look forward to getting started!
