David P. Raiche, Superintendent
Dear Parents and Community Members:
For some time we have known that employers are increasing seeking conscientious employees with strong communication skills and the ability to work productively in groups. However, schools have only recently identified the need to recognize students’ social emotional skill development as an integral part of each child’s development, in addition to their academic progress. In Plainville we began to proactively respond to this fact a few years ago through staffing and professional learning. So today, when we measure the academic and social well-being of our students and programs, we do so knowing that the world is asking more and more of today’s students and, in order for them to be successful, we owe it to them to make certain that they possess the skills and mindsets that will assist them.
In addition to the actions our educators undertake I also know that we limit our attainment of school achievement goals when we fail to involve students deeply in the assessment process. Students possess the ability to and need to play significant roles in regards to self-motivation, goal setting, self-regulation and feedback. By doing so we make it possible for students to take the lead with their learning.
As the summer comes to a close, I look forward to another exciting school year and thank you for your continued support. You have always made the children of Plainville your #1 priority. Please know that the school committee, administration, faculty and staff join me in pledging our best efforts throughout the 2018-2019 school year.
