Week of March 23, 2020
Hello Families,
Here is an activity you can do each day to help support your child’s emotional well-being at home. Creating a Feelings Journal is one way to help children identify, express and recognize his/her emotions (Social Emotional Learning Standard #1). In school, we discuss the many types of emotions may feel every day. We also have shared that feelings are like the weather and can change during the day. Also that feelings may come to visit but they don’t have to stay. Allowing kids of all ages to spend time reflecting on their feelings, either in words or pictures, can be helpful as they build the self-awareness they need to make good decisions and communicate effectively with others. It doesn’t have to be a notebook; single pages or even typed up reflections are helpful. This video describes this activity in greater detail and has a great ending where kids share what feeling might “look” like. If any student creates this journal or wants to share any part of it now, or when we return to school, I would be happy to look at it with them and discuss their entries. I am also available at kskeffington@plainville.k12.ma.us.

Practice being mindful. Listen to the story and take some time to draw or write down 3 things you can hear, 3 things you can see and 3 things you can feel.
