Mrs. Flynn
I am so excited to be a part of the Plainville Schools for my fifth year! The past few years I have gotten the opportunity to be a part of the Wood School Community and to become involved in the many fabulous things offered. I look forward to continuing my involvement in the Wood School Community alongside all of you :)
I graduated in 2008 with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education and Mathematics and in 2011 I received my M.A. degree in Curriculum Design and Instruction for Mathematics. As I am sure you can tell I have a love and passion for mathematics and want to make this intimidating subject fun and meaningful for all of my students. I want the focus in the classroom to be about what knowledge students have that they can expand upon rather than focusing on deficiencies. There is not one way to learn and I encourage all learners to show what they have and help our learning community grow!
This is my 11th year of teaching. I have had the opportunity to work in a variety of schools systems and grade levels which have helped me work on mastering the craft of teaching. I have been lucky enough to work in most grades in some capacity and have been alongside a variety of teachers that have really helped me carve my own path in teaching and learning. This will be my 6th year working as a 5th grade math and science teacher. I have been working diligently over the summer to create a varied curriculum for both subjects so that everyone will be able to make gains this year. I am very much looking forward to all the new experiences we will share this year!
In my free time I am an absolute beach bum! I love going to the Cape or Maine to get a taste of the sun and sand. Actually anytime in the sunshine is for me, whether that be adventuring in camping in the white mountains, staying local at Normandy Farms or reading a good book in the yard. No matter what I am doing I love to have my family and friends nearby -- especially my niece and nephew who are constantly making me smile and laugh -- I am sure you will be hearing lots of stories about them this year! As well as my cat Simba. I look forward to learning all about you as well as we enjoy our year together :)
