Unit 4 Fundations instruction will focus on the Bonus Letter Spelling Rule and Glued Sounds. The Bonus Letter Spelling Rule states that if a word has a short vowel sound and ends with a f,l,s, or z, the word will be spelled with a doubled last letter (ie. cuff, pass). Glued sounds are unique sounds that contain both a vowel and consonant(s). Unit 4 of Fundations will target the glued sound all. Students will be completing activities centered on both phoneme segmentation and blending with these new glued sounds.

Below is a pool of words that students could be tested on during Unit 4 of Fundations:

call           pass          wall           chill          hill            fall           hall

tall           toss          cuff         mess         yell           quill          shell
